Chris Eckert, a senior at Owen J. Roberts High School, lives near Ryerss Farm, a safe home for horses who are in their golden years. A couple years ago when Ryerss was affected by a barn fire, he and a friend were able to gather volunteers from the high school to host a car wash fundraiser to help Ryerss Farm.
This year, Chris worked with Anchor Club students and on May 26, another car wash was held with 100% of the proceeds benefitting Ryerss farm. Chris worked with Ridge Fire Company and the Fire Company graciously allowed students to host the car wash at their site on Route 23. Ryerss was so appreciative that they sent out a representative to set up a table and provide lunch for the Anchor Club members. Anchor Club provided snacks and had a wonderful time raising $376 for the farm to help with the many needs including food, shelter, farrier, veterinarian and dental care, as well as routine inoculations and medications. Throughout the school year, students and student groups work to assist the farm in various ways.
