Owen J. Students Compete at State and National Levels this Summer

Miss Payton Nicole Schaffer, age 11, was chosen as an Official State Finalist in the National American Miss, 2014 Miss Pennsylvania Pre-Teen Pageant held August 9-10 TH at the Hilton Harrisburg and Towers.

The National American Miss pageants are dedicated to celebrating America’s future leaders and equipping them with life-long skills.  Each year the pageant nationally awards 1.5 Million dollars in cash, scholarships and other prizes. Girls under the age of 12 are not permitted to wear make-up and there is no swimsuit competition. The pageant program is based on inner-beauty, as well as poise and presentation, and offers an “All-American spirit of fun for family and friends.” Emphasis is put on the importance of developing self-confidence, learning good sportsmanship, as well as setting and achieving personal goals. The Pageant recognizes the accomplishments of each girl while encouraging her to set goals for the future.

Brianna Marie Cargo will enter third grade this year. She started running April 2013, with a 5k as a benefit for the Boston Marathon victims. She was 7 years old at this time.  In December of 2013 she went to USATF National Indoor Championships in Maryland.  Then this year she ran track meets throughout the spring in Philadelphia.  First she qualified for USATF Championships, which was held at Wiedner University.  At Championships, she qualified for USATF Regionals which was held in Galloway Township, New Jersey.  At Regionals she qualified for USATF Outdoor Nationals in Humble, Texas, where she competed this summer.
