Guest Reader at East Vincent
The children listened and interacted with Miss Roxanne as she read them stories. They also were able to talk to her about her experience as a contestant in the Miss Universe pageant. She shared her experiences and excitement about meeting the women from 88 countries around the globe during the pageant. She explained that she loved wearing her evening gown because her mother and aunts had chosen it for her. The students were surprised that she had never before seen snow.
Students in Mrs. Sacks' first grade classroom had seen a short video of Miss Roxanne and had decided she was a strong contender to win Miss Universe because she was "healthy, smart, pretty and of good character". Questions from the first grade group included her favorite foods, animal, color and favorite move in ballet. Miss Roxanne told the children that it is important to understand current global-social issues and to look always for ways to do good in the world.
