National Recognition for Music Program

Owen J. Roberts School District’s Music Education Program Receives National Recognition;
Named a Best Community for Music!

The NAMM Foundation has recognized Owen J. Roberts School District for its outstanding commitment to music education with a Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) designation. Owen J. Roberts School District joins approximately 388 districts across the country in receiving the prestigious distinction in 2015.

Now in its 16th year, Best Communities for Music Education affirms school districts that have demonstrated exceptional efforts toward maintaining music education as part of schools’ core curriculum.

The BCME survey requires districts to answer detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Center for Public Partnerships and Research, an affiliate of the University of Kansas.

New research shows students involved with community music programs
demonstrate improvement in subjects such as reading.  Other reports indicate that learning to play music can boost academic and social skills, such as processing math and learning to cooperate in group settings.

About The NAMM Foundation
The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the National
Association of Music Merchants and its nearly 9,200 members around the world. The Foundation advances active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs. Reading Olympics Success

The East Coventry 6th grade Reading Olympics team proved that they could increase the quantity and quality of books read and received recognition for doing so by receiving a blue ribbon in the Chester County Reading Olympics. Congratulations to the team and all involved!

"Chester County Reading Olympics' goal is to increase the quality and quantity of books students read for enjoyment. The Olympics are primarily a celebration of reading rather than a contest."

Sale Helps Expand Learning Opportunities

On Saturday, March 21, the semi-annual Owen J. Roberts Education Foundation Consignment Sale took place in the Owen J. Roberts Middle School.

The Owen J. Roberts Education Foundation Consignment Sale is a great sale for everyone and an event with a triple bottom line: profit, people and planet. Sellers earn money recycling pre-loved children's clothing, books, and toys. The Education Foundation earns a portion of the profits to give back to the District to fund classroom innovation.

The Ed Foundation works to directly impact student learning by funding projects which provide a significant and defined benefit to students. They fund projects and events which may represent a new educational initiative, fall outside normal budget or planning considerations, and/or explore use and integration of new technologies. Ed Foundation funding helps expand student experiential learning opportunities.

At the end of the sale, a box truck was loaded with baby furniture, clothing, blankets, shoes and other necessities all to be donated to a local charity serving families with need. In the end, everyone profits and the planet is cared for through the recycling of goods.

Owen J. Roberts Education Foundation thanks everyone who helps out with this event including Jessica Marzella Photography, for taking and donating these photographs!

Mark your calendars--The next sale is September 12, 2015.
