The Best Buddies/Education Foundation color run drew 592 registered runners in the 5K alone!!!! An estimated 100 more ran or walked the 1 mile fun run—a total of nearly 700 runners!
The event committee is grateful to coaches, parents and volunteers who helped to create a love and understanding of running in our youth these past weeks! We have heard from several parents who are pleased that students gained skills and reduced fears associated with running. Many are already planning subsequent running events together.
Every single runner was valued for participation. The committee learned a valuable lesson about leaving registration open too long, however, as 150 people registered in the final week. In addition, another 200 walked up and registered on RACE DAY! Although the organizers were not prepared for numbers such as those, almost every registrant handled the situation with grace!
Last year's 5K event saw 120 runners, the year before that about 75. Some in the running community are saying the event may have been the largest running event ever in the Pottstown area! Go Wildcats!
Despite the hitches (shortage of t-shirts, long registration lines, etc), there were mostly positive experiences. Families had fun together. Students were exposed to positive role models who practice healthy habits. There was cheering and support all along the course. Best of all, the proceeds will all funnel back into our schools to impact OJR students!!!! What a win-win!
