Owen J. Roberts DECA Members Compete For Honor of Being One of the Top Marketing Students in the World
Nashville, April 23-26, 2016: 24 Owen J. Roberts High School DECA members earned the right to represent the state of Pennsylvania at DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Nashville, Tennessee. These future marketing leaders were selected through two levels of competition as some of the best marketing students out of over 4,000 Pennsylvania DECA members. At ICDC, the Owen J. Roberts delegation competed against 17,000 DECA members from all 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Dubai, and China for recognition and over $250,000 in scholarships in Nashville, April 23 – 26, 2016.
Business professionals representing both domestic and international corporations served as judges in the competitive events. These business professionals interact with the students one-on-one and determine who among them possesses the skills to become leaders of their industry.

Roberts DECA members participated in the conference: Alexi Arias and Kayla Hofmann in Creative Marketing Research Project; Steven Brady and Danny Duffy in Franchise Business Plan; Laura Brigandi and Dan Dahmer in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling; Ben Brill, Mark Dyer, and Andrew O’Brien in Accounting Application Series; Jared Cooney in Sports and Entertainment Marketing; Emma DiBella and Courtney Thomson in Business Services Operations Research; Maggie Duffy in Business Merchandising Operations Research; Liza Fitch and Danielle Wood in Advertising Campaign; Lucas Gray in Quick Serve Restaurant Management; Andrew Griffin and Emerson Odagis in Travel and Tourism Management Team; Conner Harlow in Food Marketing Series; Emily Haverstick and Emily Stoner in Start-Up Business Plan; Tim LaGreca in Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research; Annie Reisenwitz and Madeline Sager in Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan.
With only 3% of the students being recognized for their accomplishments through scholarships and trophies out of the 17,000 DECA members in attendance, Owen J. Roberts DECA is proud to acknowledge the excellent performance of Jared Cooney in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Event. Jared received recognition for the highest role-play score on the event’s promotion role-play.
DECA is the only international student organization operating through schools to attract young people to careers in marketing, merchandising, management, and entrepreneurship. Its purposes are to teach occupational proficiency, and to promote understanding and appreciation for the responsibilities of citizenship in our free, competitive enterprise system.
