Limerick Community Information Night

Limerick Hosts Community Information Night on August 31
Annual event helps inform residents about station operations

POTTSTOWN, PA (August 29, 2016) – Limerick Generating Station will host its annual Community Information Night on August 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. Local residents are invited to attend to learn more about the vital role nuclear plays in supplying electricity to Pennsylvania and the benefits it provides to the tri-county area. You can tour the main control room simulator to see first-hand how Limerick operators safely provide electricity to two million homes and businesses. The family-friendly event will be held at the main facility located at 3146 Sanatoga Road, Pottstown, PA,
Station employees will be on hand to educate visitors on station operations, engineering practices, environmental stewardship, industrial safety, radiological safety, site security, emergency preparedness and much more. Petrucci’s Ice Cream will provide free treats and the Linfield Fire Department will showcase some of its equipment.

“Community Information Night is a great opportunity to see a working nuclear station up close and meet the men and women who are dedicated to running it safely and reliably,” said Rick Libra, Limerick Site Vice President. “We look forward to hosting this event each year and sharing our commitment to nuclear safety and environmental stewardship with our neighbors.”

Visitors should enter the plant at the intersection of Evergreen and Sanatoga Roads and park in the upper parking lot, which is located just past the cooling towers. A bus will transport visitors to the simulator for those interested in a tour. If you have questions or special needs, please contact Dana Melia at (610)-718-3025 or dana.melia@exeloncorp.com.

Community Information Night is an important part of Limerick’s annual public information and outreach campaign, designed to engage and educate the public on station operations. Limerick employees continue to be an active part of the Pottstown area by volunteering, hosting tours, visiting schools, appearing at community events and financially supporting dozens of civic organizations.

Great First Day!

A year of amazing possibilities reflect ahead!
Owen J. Roberts students completed their first day of the 2016-2017 academic school year. The buses and hallways were shiny beacons of the possibilities for friendship, growth and learning that lie ahead.

Community Support

East Coventry Elementary staff visited a neighborhood last Thursday afternoon to distribute backpacks and other school supplies to families. The supplies had been donated by a local church and the distribution gave staff the opportunity to meet students before school started and help make sure each student had supplies needed to be ready to learn.

Excited to Welcome Students

Dr. Christian welcomes staff to 2016-2017 school year

Mrs. Wolfe acknowledges all staff on behalf of the Board of School Directors

Today, Owen J. Roberts staff gathered to begin the official preparation for the 2016-2017 school year. Staff was welcomed by Board of School Directors President Mrs. Pamela Wolfe, who spoke on behalf of the entire board, and by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Christian.

There was much excitement in the air as each of us prepares to greet students on Monday, August 29.

Thanks to our facilities, maintenance and technology departments, the buildings are ready for our opening and welcoming students on August 29, 2016.  Students will be eager to learn, and we will be ready for them.

Highlights of this summer include:

  • Over 200 teachers participated in the third annual Technology Academy and over 700 devices will be deployed for student/teacher use this year.  30 projectors were replaced throughout the district.  Many new network infrastructure projects took place to improve connectivity.
  • Over 400 students participated in academic and recreation camps this summer. We were thrilled to see so many teachers and students enjoying music, art, games, fishing, and more!
  • New teachers and support staff have been hired in preparation for the new year.
  • The construction of the new East Vincent Elementary School is progressing nicely.  Additionally, we have received final approval for East Coventry and are out to bid!
We are excited to welcome many new faces to Owen J. Roberts this year.  Through our collective efforts, we will continue to create a caring environment where students can learn, achieve, and grow.

Kinder Camp

Owen J. Roberts Elementary Schools (East Coventry, East Vincent, French Creek, North Coventry and West Vincent) welcomed incoming kindergarten students to Kinder Camp recently. At Kinder Camp, fledgling students have a chance to experience the school setting and riding the bus, prior to the start of the school year. Students get a jump start on meeting new friends and school staff. They have an opportunity to feel more confident about the start of school because they are able to tour it, begin to understand expectations, and best of all, find out how much fun it may be!
