This summer, Principal McKillip was awarded her doctorate in education. Students and staff took pleasure in dedicating a day to celebrate her accomplishment. Dr. McKillip was overwhelmed by the gesture and looks forward to hanging a special print in her office made by the students from each of their thumbprints.

In May of 2016, a group of art students from last year's grade 8 class competed in Project Innovate, a challenge to upcycle "junk" into wearable fashion. Some of the artwork and creative process was featured in a recent issue of Learning by Design Magazine.
The Learning by Design article begins on page 6:
It includes pictures of 3 of our current 9th grade students; Emily Wonder, Anna Bochinski, & Stacia Subick.
We also took along to this competition the following students who collaborated in creating the costumes on some of the girls; Katrina & Anna Subick, Haley O’Donell, & Mary-Kate Duffy. Students used brag boards to illustrate and communicate the creative design process.
Emily Wunder placed 4th in the region wearing Haley O'Donnell & Stacia Subick cloud costume they created together.
Everyone modeled a costume! Mrs. Lisa Duffy, art teacher, said that it was a wonderful day of learning and creativity which she hopes to do again with another group of students for the May 6, 2017 contest!

The High School Ecology Class (Temperate and Tropical Ecologies) performed a tree survey at Crow’s Nest Preserve this afternoon. The preserve is located minutes from Owen J. Roberts High School and is gateway to 73,000 acres of forest known as Hopewell Big Woods. There are 621 acres of meadows, woodlands and crop fields that make up the Crow’s Nest, one of the preserves of the Natural Lands Trust.
Mrs. Laura George plans to take her ecology class three times this school year to learn on the Crow’s Nest site. The tree survey performed today can help conservationists understand the woodland community composition. Students learned and used the point-centered quarter sampling method gathering data about species, tree diameter and distance from point. Students demonstrated knowledge and skills previously learned in class to identify and record tree species.

Our HS and MS bands performed this past Saturday night at the Lancaster County Marching Band Coalition Showcase.
