Celebrating friendship pie

Friendship pie tastes so much sweeter than enemy pie.

Jeremy Ross's not so perfect summer...

Mrs. Smith-Wentzel's second grade class at East Coventry Elementary School LOVED the book Enemy Pie by Derek Munson. Today, her class brainstormed about the elements of friendship and what it means to be a friend. Once they created a "recipe for friendship", they discussed what was most important about being a good friend. The class agreed that a warm heart was most important. So they decided that a pie crust would represent a warm heart. They then selected other elements of friendship and equated them to fruit pie fillings. "What would best represent fun?" Mrs. Smith-Wentzel asked the students. "Sprinkles!", they agreed. In small groups they decided how to build their individual pies from shared ingredients at a table and then enjoyed a pie celebrating friendship.
