Students Participate in Constitution Day
The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) held a Constitution Day celebration on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. on the steps of the historic Chester County Courthouse in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
The purpose of the celebration was to commemorate the formation and signing of the United States Constitution, which recognizes citizenship for all who were born in the United States, as well as those who came to the United States through the naturalization process. Students from East Coventry and East Vincent Elementary Schools participated in this exciting event and were greeted by U.S. Congressman Ryan Costello and other politicians. The Henderson High School Choir sang and the Coatesville JROTC presented the colors.
Owen J. Roberts students took part in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the U.S. Constitution Preamble and did an excellent job representing the district and the county's elementary aged students, some being interviewed by press. The program closed with a short performance of the play, To Sign or Not to Sign. At that time, those in attendance were given the opportunity to sign a replica of the U.S. Constitution.
