Prom and Post Prom

This past weekend, Owen J. Roberts High School held the Junior/Senior Prom in King of Prussia. The high school parent organization, the PTSA, sponsored a fun post-prom party which provided students with a safe and enjoyable evening where they could make memories to last a lifetime.

The post prom included a pre-promenade at the Wildcat with professional pictures at no charge to students. PTSA not only hired a photographer, but arranged a coach bus to transport students to the prom after the promenade.

The after prom party ran from 11 pm - 5 am with live music from the Fabulous Taco Brothers Band and various crowd-pleasing foods such as Chick Fil-A and Lani Ice. A Mock Casino, inflatables and Laser Tag were tons of fun and DJ Tracey Shaner entertained from 12:30-3:30 am. There were plenty of prizes given out and the event was totally free thanks to the dedication of the post prom committee and the help of so many community members.

National Day of Silence Observed

On April 27, 2018, students in schools throughout the country participated in an effort to be silent as a means of illustrating the silence that many LGBTQ students must hold in order to feel safe in their lives, be it at school, home, or their larger community.  Students who identify as LGBTQ as well as their Allies select to participate. At Owen J. Roberts, many students take a vow of silence in honor or memory of someone in their life who has passed or does not live in our community. Participating students carried cards with them indicating their involvement. Staff supported students by wearing various colors by department to illustrate diversity. At the end of the day, students break their silence and invite everyone to come to enjoy conversation and refreshments.

Students Develop Product to Tackle Global Warming

Great news!  The JAL team at East Vincent Elementary School has been selected as a semi-finalist team for the Chester County Student Invention Convention.  They will pitch their Saans Cow Collar invention, designed to absorb methane produced by cows, to the attendees at the Learning Transformed District Showcase on May 15th at the Chester County Intermediate Unit.  During this event, attendees will “invest” in their invention of choice to determine the convention winner.  You can learn more about the girls invention by watching their short video pitch.

Congratulations again to Jackie Orr, Anna Wilson, and Lexi Voetelink from East Vincent’s 6th grade for advancing to the finals!

About the Learning Transformed District Showcase: Districts will showcase innovative educational practices that have transformed the learning experience. Teachers and students will personally speak to the transformative impact those practices have made. The event is free and hearty h'ors dourves and desserts provided.
