Odyssey World Winners

Odyssey worlds 2019

Congratulations to SIX district Odyssey of the Mind (OM) teams who competed May 22-25, 2015 in World Finals competition at Michigan State University.

A VERY special hats off to our French Creek Elementary School team who earned a second place trophy for the district and to the Middle School Technical team who earned an eighth place in the world-wide competition.

The team from French Creek accomplished this goal while competing against over 50 teams from across our country and around the world.  All of the competing teams earned the right to perform at world finals by winning their own state or national titles, besting dozens of teams along the way.  By placing second, French Creek students out competed hundreds of teams that entered this competition since November.

Middle School Team Wins 8th in World
Congratulations to French Creek students: Amelia Dales, Cooper Groth, Henry Hain-Tobias, Iris Hurlock, Anthony Matlack, Lanah Neill, and Kathryn Sweitzer, as well as their advisor, Mrs. Pam Yarborough and assistant Jessica Lineman. Congratulations to Middle School students Megha Gudipudi, Olivia Savochka, Tommy Foster, Braeden Mathews, Josh Zhang, Aaron Tokey, and Serena Barone as well as advisor, Mrs. Lisa Duffy, on their eighth place World-win for the vehicle problem.

Mrs. Yarborough coaches the technical OM teams who build mechanical creatures that hide in an environment from a search character. The French Creek Team built a mechanical bird that lit up, flapped its wings, changed colors, and then transformed into a phoenix to reveal its true self.

Two other Middle School teams represented Owen J. Roberts in this contest as well as teams from East Vincent Elementary and West Vincent Elementary.  All of these teams worked hard, and competed well.

Once again our Odyssey students represented our district with distinction and proved that an Owen J. Education produces strong problem-solvers and some of the finest students in the world!
