Breaking Down Cultural Barriers with Student Exchange

With the help of Greenheart Exchange, Owen J Roberts is breaking down cultural and international barriers right here in our area.

Jesus Cendon (Spain) and Mikolaj Hucz (Poland) are our two Greenheart Exchange Students who are both thriving at OJRHS.

Our School to School Exchange kicked off on a great foot, with the Spanish Students visiting Owen J. Roberts High School (OJRHS) in September. They volunteered at several local venues and made a really positive impact on their host families, the students at the High School, and our community as a whole. Our OJRHS Students are preparing for their upcoming two-week trip to Madrid in June.

The teacher placement has also been a huge success... Armin Steinberger, from Austria, was a wonderful addition to our teaching staff at OJR teaching German at the high school for a semester and also coaching the middle school boys soccer team.

Please take a moment to watch this Greenheart video featuring OJR, I thought you might enjoy it!

Greenheart is a non-profit organization that works to facilitate foreign exchange, often working closely with the US Department of State to bring together people from different backgrounds and help obliterate stereotypes and foster greater cultural awareness and understanding among our youth. These programs also put a heavy emphasis on volunteerism in the communities where Greenheart Students are placed, encouraging students to give back by supporting positive initiatives in the areas where they live.

In addition to the benefits of the exchange program, OJR also earned a $4,000 grant as a result of their designation as a Greenheart School.
